It is estimated that one in five Americans aged 65 years and older have been a victim of financial exploitation. To try and help battle this problem, the Financial Planning Association and other advocacy groups are offering a series of hotline numbers manned by experts who will help answer people's questions.
These one-day-only hotlines will be available on November 10th.
For general questions about financial planning of elders, call 888-227-1776 to speak with someone who can tell you more about how to protect elders from financial fraud.
For medical questions, call 888-303-0430 to speak with health-care professionals who can give you information about elder cognitative impairment, which can lead to elders making unsound financial decisions and can lead to financial exploitation and fraud.
If you think someone you know has been a victim of financial abuse, call 888-303-3297 to speak with an adult-protective-services professional on how to go about protecting your loved one from abuse, while helping them stay independent.
