Pedestrian Crosses I-5 Freeway in Seattle, Washington, and Causes an Accident

In the early morning of April 30th, 2011, a pedestrian attempted to walk across the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway in Seattle, Washington. In order to avoid hitting this male pedestrian, the driver of a Honda Accord swerved away from the pedestrian, but unfortunately still hit the man. As a result of the collision, the man was thrown off the I-5 freeway altogether. Due to the impact of hitting the man, the Honda Accord headed into another lane, decelerated rapidly, and hit a United States Postal Service semi-truck. The 50-year-old driver of this postal service truck, Marvin Copsey of Seattle, Washington, was not injured.

While the Honda Accord was completely destroyed in the process, the driver of this vehicle, 26-year-old Joel Martinez-Jose of Seattle, Washington, only suffered minor injuries. The northbound Interstate 5 Freeway was closed for just over five hours following the accident.

Meanwhile, the pedestrian, thirty-nine year old Thau Qual Le, suffered from serious injuries and was subsequently taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. It is illegal for pedestrians to cross the freeway; however, it was unclear at the time of the accident whether charges would be filed.
