West Seattle Woman on Bike Killed by SUV

While riding her bike on a country road on the morning of May 21st, 2011, Sally Eustis, a 61-year-old woman from West Seattle, Washington, was hit by an SUV.  The sports utility vehicle was driven by Melvin Bohleen, who hails from Dayton, Columbia County.

The accident happened four miles north of the town of Walla Walla on Middle Waitsburg Road – a road with two lanes and narrow shoulders.  At the time of the accident, Eustis was wearing a bicycle helmet and cycling with her sister-in-law, Terri Wolber of Seattle, Washington.

Jeff Eustis, the husband of Terri Wolber, stated that he and the rest of his family are disputing earlier media claims that said that both Wolber and Eustis were originally riding side-by-side on Middle Waitsburg Road. 

Jeff Eustis stated that Sally Eustis was riding behind his wife when Sally Eustis was struck by the SUV.

John Turner, the County Chief of Walla Walla stated that the accident was still under investigation and that no conclusions have been drawn as of May 24th, 2011. Turner additionally stated that toxicology tests were still pending, but that there was no indication that the SUV driver was under the influence at the scene of the accident.
